Billiard Lighting

Properly placing your billiard lighting is crucial when illuminating your game room.  If they are hung too high, they can shine in players' eyes. If they are hung too low, they can easily be hit during play.

As a general rule, pool table lights should be hung about 32 inches above the bed of the table. A key thing to remember is that the fixture is not intended to provide lighting for your entire room, but rather to illuminate your pool table.  The edge of the field of light should should line up with the edges of the table.  You may need to raise or lower your fixture slightly from the 32" mark to achieve this effect.

These eye catching fixtures hang over billiard tables and kitchen islands and provide style and functionality.

If you need to install your billiard lighting prior to the arrival of your pool table, you should plan on hanging the fixture 60 to 70 inches from the floor.

When determining the size of the fixture, you'll want to consider the length of your table.  Here are some guidelines to follow:

  • 7 Foot Table: 40" - 57" Billiard Light
  • 8 Foot Table: 48" - 60" Billiard Light
  • 9 Foot Table: 57" - 83" Billiard Light

Flat art is ideally illuminated by a source striking its surface at a 30 degree angle. This eliminates veiling reflection (glare) from bouncing into a viewer's eye, and prevents the casting of a shadow of the viewer onto the artwork.

To determine the correct distance from the wall you can use the below listed formula or quick reference chart.

Formula to calculate luminaire distance from the wall for a 30 degree aiming angle where H = Distance from the ceiling to the aiming point and D = Distance from the wall to the center of the luminaire. (The aiming point is generally selected at 1/3 down from the top of the picture or object.)

D = H x .5774

Example: D = 4.5' x .5774 = 2.6' or approximately 2'-6"
