If kitchen lights are hung too high they will shine in the eyes of those that sit on the stools.  If the lights are hung too low, they can block the line of vision across the island.

The height of a ceiling fan can affect its performance. For safety reasons, the fan blades must be a minimum of 7 feet above the floor. For maximum cooling benefits, however, the blades should be 8 to 9 feet above the floor. 

For best performance and appearance, an extension downrod should be used with your Casablanca fan when installing on high or sloped ceilings. Extension downrods provide stability and prevent ceiling fans from wobbling. They are available in a variety of finishes to match the style of your fan. Ceiling fans can provide dramatic energy savings during
the summer by circulating air through your home and creating a cooling breeze. You can even avoid using air conditioning at times by opening a few windows and
allowing ceiling fans to move warm air outdoors. This technique can make you feel up to 8 degrees cooler, and lower your air conditioning bill by 40%.

Many homeowners are unaware that they can also use ceiling fans to lower energy costs in the winter. Since hot air rises naturally, the warmest air in your house is usually near the ceiling where you cannot feel it. A ceiling fan running in reverse (clockwise) pulls this warm air down into your living space.

When the warm air reaches the level of your thermostats, it will prevent them from triggering your heating system as often. You can save approximately 1-2% on your heating bill for each degree you lower your thermostat.

Although a ceiling fan running forward can still lower energy costs in the winter, you will feel cooler due to the breeze. Therefore, it is most effective to run ceiling fans in reverse while heating your home. Some ceilings fans do not run in reverse.  Casablanca offers many models with this feature.
